Stockholm Public Library International Architectural Competition
When we look to the classical aura of Asplund’s public library rising from a natural background, comes to our mind a Ledoux picture of a building surrounded by exuberant vegetation. In fact, is in the confrontation between the south facade and the green land that this temple becomes an icon.
The new library becomes literally an extension of the natural hill that involves the existing buildings, submerged, now, in a new connective and distributive logic.
The new construction is shaped as an open space that provides shelter to thematic containers related between them like buildings in a town.
The roof becomes the natural extension of inner spaces and a green field opened to the city, a place for rest and creation, above a natural movement, stabbed by the light an emergence of domesticated past, in the AVALANCHE of time.
